The Network of Educational and Cultural Radio and Television Stations of Mexico, A. C., is a civil association constituted on November 1, 2005.  It traces its origins back to The National Educational and Cultural Radio and Television Stations Network.  It includes 56 affiliates, of which 55 are Public Radio and Television systems-- either governmental, or belonging to cultural and educational institutions, as well as civil associations - including SATMEX, an occasional associate with honorary character.

This network was created as a need to implement a common platform for the articulation and collaboration of all the systems of public radio and television  services of the country.  Regarding their origin, these media depend as much from State governments and agencies, as from federal institutions, as well as from private and public universities.  The number of radio and television frequencies of these systems surpass 450 throughout the Mexican territory.  Their regional penetration is so extensive that as a whole, their audience is estimated by over 25 million televiewers and radio listeners from 30 federal entities, being among the three more important broadcast networks at a national level.

In Mexico, the public radio and television systems carry out the fundamental task of promoting education and culture on a daily basis, but also strive to ensure the objectivity of their informative task of enormous social service.

The Network of Educational and Cultural Radio and Television Stations of Mexico, A.C. has the most important regional penetration among the mass media in Mexico, and exercises, in its contents, a fundamental appraisal for the tasks of education and culture, to which the Mexican State is owed.

A large part of the radio and television systems that belong to The Network transmit by means of open frequency; but there is also a part of the media that transmits through restricted signals, in closed circuits, and through Internet as well, which is exclusively destined to curriculum formation.  Likewise, the signals of some associates reach an important Hispanic sector in the United States of North America.

Every one of the Radio and Television Systems that transmit in open frequency have access to important local distribution networks in their own States, which permits them a notable coverage.
